Situated on 78 acres of land, Farmleigh House features walled and sunken gardens, a working farm with a herd of Kerry Black cows, and scenic lakeside walks. Located within the beautiful Phoenix Park, just a 10-minute drive from the Morgan Hotel, a visit to Farmleigh is perfect if you are planning a day at the park.
The estate has a rich history behind it, dating back to 1847, and serves as a unique representation of the Edwardian period. In 2001, Farmleigh was refurbished by the Office of Public Works, and now acts as the official Irish State guest house, providing accommodation to visiting dignitaries. Today, ambassadors and visitors from all over the world come to see the estate.
Farmleigh House also features a working farm, an art gallery, and showcases important collections. Stop by the cowshed where you can see independent artists and performers showcase their work. Throughout the estate, you will also notice contemporary sculptures representing a diverse range of Irish and international artists, which have been introduced by the Office of Public Works over the years.
If you get hungry during your visit, you can stop by the Boathouse Restaurant. Enjoy a variety of food and drinks, including wine, coffee, and confectionary while overlooking the Farmleigh Lake. The Boathouse is open seven days a week, all year round from 10am to 5.30pm. Throughout the summer, you can stop by the Farmers Market and try delightful treats, award winning cheeses, organic vegetables, meats, fish, and much more.
Guided tours will allow you to learn more about the building’s story and see the many sections of the house. The tour includes the entrance hall and staircase, Dining Room, Drawing Room, Conservatory, Clock Tower, Fountain Lawn, Dutch Style Sunken Garden, Walled Garden and Library. Guided tours last approximately 45 minutes and take place from 10.00am to 5.30pm.
Farmleigh House and Estate is open seven days a week all year round. Entrance is free of charge, though there is a fee for a guided tour. These tours are available on a first come first serve basis.
