Hotel Near Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum, also known as 'The Dead Zoo', offers a comprehensive look through Ireland's fauna and animals. For animal lovers, a trip to the Natural History Museum will serve as a great addition to your Dublin itinerary. Located in Merrion Square, the Morgan Hotel puts you in easy reach of the most extensive collection of Irish animal and plant specimens. Head to our special offers page to see our full range of packages for staying at the Morgan Hotel.

Since opening its doors in 1857, the Natural History Museum has expanded to hold 10,000 exhibits. Each of these exhibits provides a glimpse of the natural world. The museum is a cabinet-style museum covering four different floors. The entire ground floor, called The Irish Room, is dedicated to animals that are native to Ireland. Featured in this room are a variety of mammals, birds, fishes, and insects. The giant Irish deer skeletons found at the entrance of the Museum are some of the most famous and distinctive animals on display here. The upper floor is known as the World collection. Here you will find a variety of mammals, including an elephant, polar bear, lions, an array of monkeys, apes, and lemurs.

In the Discovery Zone, you will be able to explore two different hands-on areas: Life on Land and The Life Aquatic. Here you will learn about species that live in different environments and find out what animals lurk in the drawers beneath. Some of the different objects you will be able to get your hands on include a Pilot Whale skull, Dolphin Skull, Badger, and other small mammal skulls.

Admission to all four sites of the National Museum of Ireland is free. The museum is suitable for all ages and will serve as a fun activity for the whole family. The museum also regularly holds events and features guest exhibitions throughout the year. If you wish to see information about what exhibitions are being featured at the museum during your visit to Ireland, you can check the museum website ahead of time.

The Natural History Museum is located in Merrion Square, just over a 15-minute walk from The Morgan Hotel. Don't miss out on the opportunity to discover more about natural history and investigate the threats to Irish wildlife.
